During his school years, writing was a place of refuge and an outlet, together with art, for his creative desires and abilities. One of his English teachers was especially encouraging giving Ian praise for his essays and poetry. Ian wrote essays and poetry even when such work was not required because he loved the places his imagination could take him through words he wrote.

In 2009 Ian was introduced once again to the Melbourne spoken word scene and began performing his poetry at various gigs after an absence of over 35 years. He has performed for audiences in Australia, Europe and the USA, releasing his first book of poetry and short stories in August 2018.
“Hidden in the Light” is his first novel and has finally been published 14 years after he began writing the book in November 2006.

A second book of poetry and short stories and his second novel will be released in October of 2021.
